Carswell Prison in the United States continues to impose the harshest rules on Aafia including isolation and restrictions on even a phone call or contact with family or lawyer.

But on the other side of the world, the support for Aafia gained momentum in Pakistan despite violent measures adopted by security forces.  Also in February the movement gained an international boost from South Africa where a week long "Free Aafia" campaign generated thousands of supporters.
